Is the “mark of the beast” a microchip?

Microchip-Mark-of-the-BeastLike many other Christians, I was also taught that the “mark of the beast” mentioned in Rev 13:16, could most probably be a microchip which gets inserted to someones forehead or hand. Not only do many Christians believe in this story, there are so many articles and emails that fly around on this subject today, that it is unlikely for you to have not heard or received such an email from a friend or fellow believer.

Rev 13:16  Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead,

While I do not completely discard the idea of the “mark” being a “microchip”, I would like to provide you with some clarifications using the Scriptures itself. Could it be that this mark is not a physical mark? Could it be, that John was writing about a metaphorical “mark”? Let us see what the Scriptures reveal on the matter.

Exo 13:9  And it shall be to you as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth. For with a strong hand the LORD has brought you out of Egypt.
Exo 13:16  It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes, for by a strong hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.”
Deu 6:8  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
Deu 11:18  “You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

The above verses speak of God’s Commandments/Laws and how they should be marked on our hands and bound on our foreheads. In other words, God expects us to keep His Commandments/Laws in our mind (between our eyes) and act accordingly (bound on our hands). Binding them as a sign on our hands and as a memorial between our eyes, was not a physical act, but a metaphorical way of saying that we should keep them in remembrance and that our actions should follow suit.

Coming back to the verse in concern, Rev 13:16 speaks of the “image of the beast” which makes all humans have a “mark” on the hand or forehead. The resemblances between this verse and the ones given above are quite interesting. In both cases, a “mark/sign” is mentioned. In both cases, the “hand & forehead” are mentioned.

Just as the mark of God set upon the “hands” & “in between the eyes” are “God’s Commandments/Laws”, it could very well be that the “image of the beast” also sets its “Commandments/Laws” as a mark on the “forehead” or “hands” of all who worships it. In other words, just as whoever obeys God’s commandments have placed His Word as a mark on his/her hand or forehead, whoever obeys the “beast” will carry its mark on his/her hand or forehead.

While most Christians look for a “microchip”, it is possible that people will be taken by surprise if no such thing comes to pass. It is necessary to keep our eyes open as well as our spirits, and diligently read God’s Word seeking out interpretation using Scripture itself. Not every news item on the web is true.chip2 There are many hoaxes spread (such as the image on the right) by unwitting people, as they themselves believe things without clarification. We must remember that we need to interpret Scripture with Scripture. As I mention in many of the posts on this blog, you are not to believe any interpretation of any person including what is written here, without testing it against God’s Word.

May God’s Word, His Commandments and laws be a “mark” on your hand and your forehead! Pro 7:2,3  Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

      Dear Laura,
The fact is that the Scriptures never mention a microchip, and this is only an interpretation that has become popular recently. I am not ruling out the interpretation completely, but we must not get carried away with one particular interpretation and be open to other possibilities with open eyes. I was also told that it is a microchip just like you. We must be informed and ready

      Be a blessing!

I understand what you are trying to explore in your article but a “metaphorical mark” will be difficult to become a means to buy or sell.

Dear Joel, Interesting point. I understand that a metaphorical mark won’t be sufficient to be a means to buy or sell. But consider a simple example:-
Buying and Selling is not to be done on the Sabbath Day according to God’s Word (Neh 10:31, 13:15-18). If the antichrist figure proclaims all buying and selling to be done on the Sabbath Day, it would ideally be a breaking of God’s Law while obeying the antichrist. Only a thought!

Be a blessing to everyone around you!

        Just adding the following scripture.
I counsel you to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich; and white raiment, that you may be clothed, and that the shame of your nakedness do not appear; and anoint your eyes with eyesalve, that you may see. (REVELATION) 3:18
Here Yeshua is telling us to buy gold and white robes from him. The question then arises is how can we buy gold or white robes from our messiah. The only way this is possible is by observing and obeying Yahweh’s commandments. Obedience of the commandment is compared to a transaction of buying/selling. Similarly obedience to the commandments of the beast would be a transaction too. Also, the commandments of the beast will be linked to death.

And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. (REVELATION) 13:15

Mark on the forehead denotes keeping the law/commandment in the mind whereas hand denotes action or doing something. The law brought about by the beast will have a death implication.

I hope this has added a bit of clarity.

        Dear Dustin,
Yes, He is the Lord of the Sabbath. And I am not part of the Seventh Day Adventist church in any form, but do agree that the Sabbath is still applicable today.
May you be a blessing to everyone around you

The bindi and the corna hand symbol

Both exactly in the spot the bible predicts..right hand/hand in general
    And between your eyes

Poor and rich people ((politicans to people at concerts) will symbolise with the corna hand symbol..
The same with the bindi dot thingy

The bible could be predicting how many people turned into hindu (demon worshipers)or satanists

Did you know that the numbers tattooed on the arms of Jews in Auschwitz were literally IBM numbers? I.e., the Nazis were using IBM machines to help them keep track of the prisoners there, as well as other things. Metaphors are fine for the spiritual marks that God places on believers; but a world dictator will demand a real, physical mark, like a brand, so that he can tell which human cattle belong to him.

This is indeed a critical matter. However, the surest way to safety is to dwell in the presence of the Lord. To be in constant fellowship with Him.

God has given us the Holy Spirit to lead us into all the truth. Above all the confusion, God has the answers.
